UNESCO announced that 28 cities from 19 countries joined its Creative Cities Network (CCN), which aims to foster cooperation among cities around the world that invest in creativity as a driver for sustainable developments. When cities join the CCN, they commit to collaboration and development on the promotion of creativity, cultural industries, and participation in cultural life; the integration of culture into economic and social development plans; and the sharing of best practices. Irina Bokova, UNESCO’s director-general, designated these cities as CCN members, bringing the member total to 69. They include Dakar, Senegal; Florianopolis, Brazil; Galway, Ireland; Heidelberg, Germany; Nassau, Bahamas; TURIN, Italy; and Suzhou, China.
