UNIPORT wins $111, 632 foreign grant The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) said it won 111, 632 U.S dollars about N18. 31 million grant from the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa for training of eight students. This is contained in a statement by the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information, Dr Williams Wodi, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The statement stated that the fund would be managed by the African Development Bank. It stated that the grant would be for the training of eight UNIPORT students and citizens from six African countries in the master’s degree programme in Natural Resources and Environmental Management. The statement stated that a letter of award from the Minister of State 2 for Foreign Affairs had informed UNIPORT of the grant-approval. ``The university has also been selected to host the Carnegie American Diaspora Scholar scheme for African scholars resident in the United States and Canada,” it stated. The Diaspora programme co-hosted by UNIPORT and 33 African Diaspora Scholar institutions, the statement added, would seek collaboration with other higher education institutions across the continent. It stated that the programme, which began in the month of July, focused on curriculum co-development, research, graduate teaching, training and mentoring activities. The statement also stated that the programme covered a wide range of courses of arts and humanities, social sciences, education, sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.
