UNIQUE (Latin, “one”) is unique. Something cannot be very unique, totally unique, or quite unique (nor can you be “just a little bit pregnant” - you either are or aren’t). While there is disagreement on this subject among writers and readers, notice that the instant you try to modify unique, you stray into hyperbole. Unique is a beautiful and complete word, all on its own. The Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal, Iceland, Borobudur temple, and the Galápagos Islands are each unique, for different reasons. They do not need to be qualified as “very unique.”
