UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK Professorship with special responsibilities in Political Philosophy The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, invites applications for a professorship with special responsibilities in Political Philosophy to be filled by 1 January 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication (mcc.ku.dk) offers research-driven educational programmes within Film and Media Studies, Philosophy, Education and Rhetoric. The Department focuses on the fundamental aspects of human cognition and communication as they are manifested in various institutions and media, and in various historical and social contexts. The professorship will be affiliated with the Department’s Section of Philosophy (philosophy.ku.dk). Job content The position as professor in political philosophy contains special responsibilities in relation to the development of the cross-departmental center for migration studies AMIS at the Faculty of Humanities. It is expected that the professor will take a leading role in developing AMIS and associated research and teaching activities, as well as increase the external funding for these activities. The position is a 5-year fixed-term appointment with possibility of a 3-year extension.The position covers research and research-based teaching as well as administration and management according to current standard requirements at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. A professor at the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication is expected to carry out teaching and research with international impact and to be a driving force in leading and developing collective research environments. This includes research management and PhD supervision. The job description includes development, planning and administration of the BA and MA programmes in Philosophy as well as teaching within one or more of the central areas in these programmes. The appointed applicant is expected to teach in Danish and in English. The professor is expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration, and also to manage research projects, provide pedagogical supervision, support assistant professors and participate in academic assessment panels. Qualification requirements The candidate should have an international research profile. Furthermore, the candidate should be able to document an extensive research production within political philosophy as well as excellent teaching qualifications within philosophy. In the overall assessment of the candidate, documented research and teaching qualifications within studies of migration and integration will be an advantage. Applicants must also document broad experience with research management and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The applicants must provide documentation that they are able to plan and undertake teaching within one or more of the central modules at the BA and MA programmes in Philosophy. The application must specify the module(s) in which the applicant is able to teach and support this by material indicating ideas and formats of the selected module(s). The duties of the position are evenly distributed on tasks related to teaching and tasks related to research (including relevant administration and knowledge-sharing). Hence the assessment of applicants’ qualifications will assign equal weight to documented competences in the field of teaching, pedagogy and didactics and competences in the field of research, research collaboration and research organization. In addition, the assessment will assign weight to applicants’ reflection on and experiences with integration of research and teaching activities. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the following: Research qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to the period of active research, the degree of originality, and academic output. Only material in English, German, French, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish will be assessed. All material will be shredded at the end of the appointment procedure. Appointment procedure After the application deadline, the Dean will set up an expert assessment committee to evaluate applicants in relation to the advertised position.
