UNOMA AKPABIO IMPORTS ‘OKIJA SHRINE’ INTO AKWA IBOM …Serves Oath (Mbiam) To Women … Desperately Threatens Women To Support Udom Women in the company of the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Ekaete Unoma Akpabio, are in for a hell of trouble as the primaries of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) gets closer. Mrs. Akpabio has warned them of dire consequences if they do not support her husband’s anointed candidate, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. Last week Thursday, Mrs. Akpabio started the process of consolidating her hold on the women by serving them oaths of allegiance, popularly known as Mbiam in the local parlance. Mrs. Akpabio, who invited the women to the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo, said she will influence the women to be made delegate at the forthcoming November 29 primaries of the PDP. The women are said to have lined-up, local government by local government, starting with Eket Local Government Area. The women, who were surprised by the action of the First Lady, could not, however, resist the oath as it was compulsory. The women were given two special Bibles, which we learnt was brought in from ‘Okija Shrine,’ Anambra State, and asked to lift them up with two hands before repeating the following declaration after the First Lady: “I,(name of woman), hereby solemnly swear that I will support the Governor to make sure Mr. Udom Emmanuel is elected the PDP flag-bearer on November 29, by voting for him as a delegate. If I deviate from this oath, may God deal with me and my family.” The women are said to have lined up again to lick salt from a plate placed on a special Bible before returning to their seat. Most of the women who were shocked at the action vowed not to go for any of Mrs. Akpabio’s programme. Some of them went straight from the venue to churches for deliverance. Mrs. Akpabio has been showing great desperation even more than the husband in her bid to choose a successor for the Governor in 2015. She recently walked out women from Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, including the Vice Chairman of Ibiono Ibom, Mrs. Shirley Allen, from a meeting in Government House accusing them of supporting Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan. Two days after, She represented the Governor at the Monthly Government House Prayer Meeting even the Deputy Governor was in town and made only political remarks tailored towards her husband’s succession plan. She also recently shouted at Udom Emmanuel in Eket during his endorsement rally by saying, “SSG, I don’t know who is distracting you when Mkpouto Akwa Ibom is talking to you. Listen to me first.” Political observers believe Mrs. Akpabio’s action has no effect and that there will be an election of delegates in all Wards in the state and every woman who wants to take part in the November 29 primaries must first win election as delegate on November 1. They equally believe that no Governor will submit the list of delegates not to talk of a Governor’s wife who is not even a member of the party. Culled From THE GUIDE NEWSPAPER
