UOG FOUR DORMITORY APARTMENT A WAKE UP CALL The four state of the art dormitory apartment is a milestone achievement of our infrastructure development and a benchmark to new development and changes to have precipitated in the long run. Eastern Highlands Province has a fine and unique culture that can easily accommodate development and changes. The notion of service and infrastructure development and changes is a cultural trend on the part of the leaders and the people who may likely decide on its outcome. The same principle will apply within the context of PNG bird’s view thus blending such view to EHP as part of PNG and may follow suit on the same phenomena of development of infrastructure trend to have taken precedence within its territory. This view is a total tainted and cloudy view which should be done away with. The Independent State of PNG has witnessed one of the finest and memorable opening of the K170 million dormitory apartments. The dormitory apartment that was viewed by many as spectacular and as state of the art brings into the bigger picture that changes and development is an opportunity. It is an opportunity when we the people develop the the courtesy to accept such development into our constituency. Basically we have to adopt and accept the culture and the willingness of tolerating development. Development in this sense, has to be on a two facet that is the development must have a likely spin off benefits or is renewable, and is long lasting in terms changing the entire EHP economy. The standing of the building some miles away is an eye opening and a wakeup call for changes to be taken effect in EHP. If we are talking about development. This is a mere and concrete development or if you may put it a benchmark of development. We need to open up and accept development, and development comes with changes. Its about time the EHP Government sit down and develop a real Development Strategy (not a paper strategy) to change our constituency. The building itself depicts a building suited to be located on a particular economy that is more or less industrialised in a sense. Thus the economy of EHP revolves mainly on subsistence farming, and the stationed of the building gave a real picture that our economy will surely changes if we want to change from subsistence farming economy to a more industrialised constituency. Life is all about changing and development goes with changes. We cannot consider our economy to be a self-subsistence farming for the rest of our lives. We need to be more industrialised and we need to accept changes. The point I want to bring about is, changes that are coming on board must be accepted on our part, if the changes shall be deemed to have a two facet beneficial on our part. On the long road ahead, we change now and tomorrow our children will definitely see changes.
