UPA responsible for worst ever economic crisis, terrorism: Rajnath JAMMU: Expressing his serious concern over worst ever economic crisis faced by the country at present, deteriorating law and order situation in the State, increasing cross border terrorism and barbaric killing of Indian soldiers on LoC, BJP president, Rajnath Singh today held the Congress led UPA Government responsible for the same and asked it to discontinue dialogue process with Pakistan. Mr Singh, who was on a day’s visit to city of temples said this while addressing the Party activists here at K K Resorts and at a press conference later. While making a scathing attack on Manmohan Singh led Government, he said it has failed on all fronts. Whether it is economic front, international security or foreign policy of the country, UPA is a total failure, he added. He equated the economic crisis faced by the nation with that of 1990-91crisis when country had to mortgage the gold. Accusing the UPA of its failure in containing cross border terrorism and giving a befitting reply to Pakistan as was done during the NDA rule in Kargil, he said killing of five Indian jawans at border by Pak Army trough deceit is condemnable and the Prime Minister should not meet his Pakistani counterpart on sidelines of next month’s UN summit in protest. He condemned the PM’s decision to hold dialogue with Pakistan under the present circumstances. BJP chief also called for lowering of diplomatic relations with Pakistan till it mends its ways. Expressing his concern over repeated incursions by China through its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) especially in Ladakh, he said the PLA has entered in Indian territory and the Government refutes the same saying “it is no man’s land”, thereby making a fun of itself. The China has also entered the PoK which is the part of India and it is framing policies and programmes there with Pak Government. Being the member of Security Council, China was this way violating the international law but UPA Government is watching as mute spectator to it, he added. Mr Singh said that the situation has deteriorated to such an extent in the country that accountability is no where and the Prime Minister who was the in charge of Coal Ministry had said on the missing of some important files pertaining to Ministry that he was not its custodian. This is an irresponsible statement as being in charge of Coal Ministry, he can’t escape from the responsibility, he added. Condemning the August 9 communal violence in Kishtwar, the BJP leader said what happened in this hilly township is totally unfortunate. He accused the State Government of watching the situation as a mute spectator and not acting in time by taking the preemptive measures. He said some youth in Kishtwar during the violence had Pak flags in their hands and these youth were not Indian but Pakistanis who were shouting pro Pak slogans and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is answerable to the nation that why his Government did not act against these youth when the MoS Home was also in the town at the time of violence. “The State Government has its own intelligence agency and why could not it gather the information before hand about the happenings in Kishtwar and act accordingly”, he said, adding Mr Abdullah owes an answer to the people. He demanded adequate compensation be given to the Kishtwar people on the basis of loss suffered by each individual. The compensation of Rs two lakh announced by the State Government is not sufficient and that too has not been released till date, he added. BJP chief lauded the role of Village Defense Committee (VDC) members in combating terrorism and made a strong dig at the forces demanding disbanding of VDCs who have laid down their lives in fighting terrorism in the State. The BJP if comes to power at Centre will strengthen VDCs by enhancing their honorarium, he added. While expressing concern over the problems being faced by West Pakistani refugees who have been deprived of citizenship rights since 1947 by successive State Governments, he said the Party after coming to power will settle this issue too by granting citizenship rights to these most deprived sections of the society and added that BJP will frame a relief and rehabilitation policy for refugees. He also called for nomination of candidates from PoK refugees to 24 seats in State Assembly which have been reserved for them by keeping vacant. He hailed the Panchs and Sarpanchs of the State for taking bold stand against militancy and expressed concern over State Government’s failure in implementation of 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendment to empower the Panchayats and local bodies in the State. Justifying the Party’s demand of proponing general elections in the country, Mr Singh said if the UPA continues in the office the crisis will further deepen in the country because the things have gone beyond there control now. Keeping this thing in mind the BJP has appealed the President of India Mr Pranab Mukherjee that general elections be proponed to save the country from further crisis. Making a strong dig at Congress, he said it was responsible for prevailing economic crisis and ridiculed the Party for holding BJP responsible for the same. He said in 2004 when BJP was ousted from power, the GDP growth was 8.4 which has now reduced to 4.4. This is a cause of concern for all. It has for the first time happened in the history of world anywhere which too in India that Government has held the opposition responsible for the economic crisis in the country, he added. He said not BJP but Congress was responsible for disrupting the Parliament as opposition members were not given the chance to raise the corruption issues on the floor of the House. He said the currency no where in the world has devalued so low against dollar except Indian rupee. This will lead to hike in prices of petrol and petroleum products. Besides, the food security Bill will also lead to price rise, he added. He wanted to know does PM want to improve economy on basis of foreign investment. In response to a question regarding declaration of Narinder Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate, Mr Singh said the decision will be taken by BJP’s Parliamentary Board at proper time. About present deteriorating situation in J&K, he said that J&K has many problems and the solution to them has to be found by State Government. Responding to a question whether the Party is considering the re-entry of seven expelled MLAs into its fold again, BJP chief said that he has given its state unit full powers to take a decision in this regard. On Aasa Ram Bapu issue, he said that law will take its own course and he has nothing to say further in this regard. Mr Singh during the Press conference was flanked by BJP national general secretary, J P Nadda, Party MP and in charge J&K Avinash Roy Khanna, state president, Jugal Kishore Sharma, former presidents of the Party Ashok Khajuria, Dr Nirmal Singh and Shamsher Singh Manhas, BJP chief spokesperson and National Executive Member Dr Jitendra Singh, MLAs Ch Shyam and Sukhnandan Kumar and senior vice president Chander Parkash Ganga.
