UPDATE: Apopka Police and the local traffic safety team made 26 arrests from the checkpoint last night. Even with letting people know about the event, and national effort to educate the public about dangerous driving habits, the team still made 11 arrests for driving under the influence, 5 for drug possession, and 10 for other crimes (such as driving with no licensee or having a suspended license). Maybe a life was saved. At the very least, a message was sent that driving under the influence is dangerous and the police are out to stop it. The Apopka Police Department, and all the local law enforcement agencies, wish you a great and safe holiday weekend.
