UPDATE: Baby steps! They lightened the sedation and his body tolerated it. Ive personally observed him move both sides of his body (before Id hadnt seen the right side move) and he will turn his head and semi open his eyes to sound. He grimaces with discomfort and pain, or when my mom tries to put chap stick on his lips. Unfortunately he isnt following commands, so he wont squeeze a hand or move a limb on command. Tomorrow they are scheduled to install a trach into his windpipe to help him be more comfortable as they remove the sedation. This decreases the chance of infection and the intubation (tube going straight down his throat) can also weaken/damage his vocal cords and swallowing muscles with prolonged exposure (he has been intubated almost a week and a half).
