UPDATE! David Sparks has had two really good days yesterday and today. It is such a relief to see him feeling better and more like himself. It is extremely difficult to push through four sessions of therapy when your body is experiencing sickness on top of the physical limitations that have put you in a rehab center to begin with. I honestly am amazed every single day by his determination even in the midst of discouraging news. We knew going to Frazier that David had a larger hurdle to overcome. We knew there would be more work, and more stress on his body. We were told last Friday by his physical therapist that David will definitely be coming home in a wheelchair. She expressed her concern that his legs are not responding as well as we had originally hoped they would after the excitement of seeing how quickly they responded after his surgery. It was a hard conversation to have with one another. So, we have begun the process of having a ramp built at our home, hoping as well that there will be no issues with doorways, etc. as he races through the house on wheels. They have not said that he definitely will not progress to the point of walking. They are saying from where he stands now it will be a long, uphill climb. He has two more weeks at Frazier. We know that there will be progression with continued therapy in the next two weeks. He has a really good team working with him, and they truly care about ALL of him! When the therapist was talking with me about everything she was trying to hold back tears the whole time. I so appreciate that they want things to be different for us, that it hurts them to have to tell us such hard news. But, we are not giving up or giving in. I dont have the tough work!! Being his cheerleader is a privilege, a gift, and an honor. Life is full of changes, big and small. Our changes this year have been traumatic. But they have catapulted so much love into our family and our home. Isnt that what life is truly all about? Love heals. Love challenges. Love stretches. Love pushes. Love leaves in its wake ripples of hope that carry us through the storms of change. Can we ask for anything more? Life IS beautiful because we have one another, our unique and amazing kids, and our Army of Hope! Megan Sparks Bracken Matt Bracken Luke Sparks Carol Sparks Mickey Mosher
