UPDATE FROM BARCLAYVILLE CITY, GRAND KRU COUNTY, LIBERIA Been out of this network for a while now. Thank God to see a brand new year, especially to spent my new year first time in my life away from my family on a national call; i.e. conducting EPI- Monitoring in five of the Liberias South Eastern Counties. EPI Monitoring is part of the EVD Response. I left Monrovia on December 26 to Cestos City, River Cess County, spent 3 nights, left for Greenville, Sinoe County, also spent 3 nights, and just arrived Barclayville, Grand Kru County for another 3 days and will head to Haper City, Maryland County and unto River Gee and back to Monrovia by the end of next week. Its an exciting movement and experience for me to visit these counties first time in my life. Although, there are difficulties associated with the trip in relation to road network, food, lodging and the environment, but its awesome as an emerging leader who is passionate and working hard to bring about sustainable change in post war and now EBola striking Liberia. Liberia needs leaders who have the passion and will power to change the status quo. The purposes of the tour are as follows: Verify how the response system set up by the Government in the counties has been effective in controlling the spread of EVD; Discuss challenges being faced by the county response teams and recommend how they could be appropriately addressed; Assess the quality and flow of data from county to central MOH; And Assess the roles of National and International partners in the counties and how these roles have contributed to the reduction of the spread of the disease. Interviewees are as follows: County Superintendent; County Health officers Surveillance, M&E & Data Team; CSOs leaderships; Health centers/clinics staffs-OICs (3 hard to reach facilities per county); Visit Towns/Villages to learn from community residents what they are doing to help government, and the local authorities to contain EVD in their towns, villages, clan and districts (2 towns/villages per facilities). Lastly, to all our sponsors and partners who provided us both financial and technical supports that enable us to successfully share with over 300 kids in x-mas day in Paynesville City and its environs, the reporting is presently being done by the Project Committee and will reach in the next two weeks. Again, thanks for your support. Together, we can make Liberia better and totally transformed, but lot and lot of challenges still ahead due to the way our leaders are managing our resources that are intended to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable people. Our health system is still a total mess that needs transformed, passionate minds to shift it in the right direction. Its unbelievable to see how some of our clinics in these counties are built in this 21st century. Total mold without using cement. What wrong with our leaders?!! Leadership is our problem!! Why should we be wicked to our own people in these manners?!! More to come!! Please remember me in your prayers so i can return safely by the grace of God. Thank you, JAG/3/1/2015 Barclayville City, Grand Kru County, Liberia
