UPDATE ON BINAY-TRILLANES DEBATE by: Philip Jr Lustre The way the camps of Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV have been doing the negotiations, the projected debate between the two political leaders may proceed, although what the country will witness is a debate, which is not a debate at all. According to the lawyers of Sen. Trillanes, the Binay camp has been putting all possible barriers to frustrate the projected debate. The latest talk is that the Binay camp does not want Trillanes to ask questions during the debate. Neither does Binay plan to ask him questions. So what will happen is that the two protagonists would just deliver prepared speeches, according to the lawyers. This is a debate which is not a debate in its essence. It does not conform to the traditions of civilized debates that we all know. I do not know how the Binay camp would react to what the Trillanes camp was saying, although the latest news said Binay spokesmen (the usually crazy and noisy mouthpieces) were saying that it was Trillanes, who did not want a debate. It is difficult to believe them given their propensity to lie through their teeth. They are not credible in any way. The following were the test messages of one of Trillaness lawyers, of which I am in touch, Please read and see their viewpoint. But I also suggest that you also read what the Binay camp has been saying for reasons of fair play. The two text messages were sent to me early this morning. First text message: Boss: They proposed Nov. 10... We said: Call. No conditions, no demands except that we be allowed to use visual aids when appropriate. Even that is just a request. W made it clear that we will insist if it would be a dead breaker. They came back and said they wanted it later... Nov. 12 to 16 daw... We said: Fine. Now, gusto nila Nov. 20 or 27 naman daw. Pikon na si ST (Sonny Trillanes) dahil mukhang balak, Boss. Paatras ng paatras. Secopnd text message: OK. No problem. with me, Boss. They practically worked out the format with the KBP. All we aked for is fundamental fairness, which is a given. I dont think puede nang tawaging debate kasi ayaw nilang magtanungan iyong dalawa... Lumalabas na series of prepared speeches lang pero ok lang kami, matuloy lang. After we practically agreed to everythjing they wanted, usog na ng usog ang date. Hanggang ngayon wala pang petsa kaya pikon na itong si ST. You will be the judge.
