~~~~ UPDATE ON BURGER~~~~ sorry to be clogging up this page lately... I just came back from visiting Burger at the shelter. He was so excited to see us. He has a nice bed and blankets and has a big bowl of food for him when he wants it... Bill (ACO) gave him a whole can of food and a few slim jims! My daughter, and my boyfriend and I met with Bill and his wife for over an hour. They are both very passionate in what they do. They were so nice and agreed to let me visit as often as Id like. While the place might not be in the best condition they do the best they can with the funds they receive from the town. Burger has heat, shelter and all the food and water he wants. Burger was finally getting some much needed rest after what was most likely MONTHS on the run.... Bill feels confident that no one is looking for Burger and that he will be able to come back to my home after his 10 day stint in the big house. lol A few things about Burger that I may or may not have mentioned before... we believe that he is an abandoned/dumped hunting dog. He has a thick plastic collar used for such and the ID has been removed from it. He whines and bays when he is running and chasing... he tracks likes nobodys business and it is hard to get his attention when he does it... he has learned to survive on his own... extremely emaciated but very strong and muscular... he has grease stains on his back most likely from sleeping under cars... his pads are thick and tough and his nails are super short from being outdoors on the terrain for so long... but before all that we believe he was always kept outdoors... He has tarnish on his neck from being tied out for so long. His collar was so tight that my fingers could not fit underneath... at all... he can not figure out how to get into the house when you open the door... you have to guide him around and through it... even then he is uneasy for a bit before he settles down... I gave him a bed and he did not want to go near it until we laid on it and showed him it was ok... he walks through his food and water bowls and is quite messy... he goes the bathroom in the house then walks through it... he also marks in the house... he had so many fleas and ticks but he does not scratch... I think he is used to them... he was afraid of touch when he came here... but now he is happy to just rest his head on our laps or lean against us if we are standing... he checks our pockets and hands for treats when just yesterday he didnt even want them if you threw them to him... he does not know how to react to touch... or interact... it is foreign to him but he is curious about it... he does not know any common commands... not sit or paw... nothing... tried them all.. but he is so sweet... and affection is new to him... He needs to learn a whole new life. He will visit the vet this week for some tests and after his 10 days are up I will take him for a thorough exam... he will most likely need antibiotics and without doubt will test positive for lyme... I wonder if he has ever seen a vet... if all goes well this wild boy will then have his pockets picked(neutered). Hopefully he can get the life I feel he deserves...
