UPDATE ON ON MY RESPONSE/DIALOGUE ON TFA Hey! So I know Ive been pretty belated on my response to the two people who submitted their statements on Teach for America (TFA). Just know that I havent forgotten about it and that Ive been working on it :) Its just that Ive been fairly caught up with other things in my life, and I want to write something that isnt just a long rant. However, I know that you all totally deserve a response from me, since I did get people on the defensive and I was made accusations of silencing people of color. So there ya go! :) Also, note that I am usually not too concerned with writing on the shortcomings of Teach for America, because there are already tons of readings you can do on that subject if you do a quick search of criticisms of Teach for America. A great organization to check out (Ive linked to them before) is Students United For Public Education. They have a very specific list of demands for TFA that I think is written better then I could have had. What Im more concerned about is answering the questions you have for me, talking about my lived experiences and addressing particular counter-arguments that you might have heard from other places, like from TFA themselves. studentsresistingtfa.k12newsnetwork/ Also, I was fortunate enough to talk to Annabel Barraza today; I learned a lot, and it made me think of a lot of things, such as the need for transitional jobs between college and grad school for first-generation, low-income people of color. And if you know me, you know that Im the kind of person who likes working with complex ideas that have no simple solution >:) . If you somehow got to the end of this, congrats! Have a great night! :D
