UPDATE: PERSONS ARRESTED AND CHARGED - At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday January 25th, 2014, Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 31000 block of Alabama Highway 25 in Wilsonville. Upon arrival deputies discovered that the shooting occurred as a result of the homeowner returning home while it was being burglarized. One of the suspects shot the homeowner in the leg and one of the suspects was also shot by the homeowner. Both were treated at the scene and transported to local hospitals. Shelby County deputies arrested two additional suspects, one at the scene and one who had fled the scene. Jovan Desha Tompkins, 21 years of age from Wilsonville, Alabama, has been formally charged with Burglary 1st degree and Assault 1st degree. Both charges have a bond of $15,000 for a total bond of $30,000. He is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail. Christopher Damien Tompkins, 19 years of age from Wilsonville, Alabama, has been formally charged with Burglary 1st degree and Assault 1st degree. Both charges have a bond of $15,000 for a total bond of $30,000. He is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail. The third suspect is still in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds. Once he is released, Sheriff’s investigators will follow up with charging him appropriately.
