***UPDATE*** Precious little Chikita is finally home, resting comfortably and doing very well after her surgery today. Her case proved to be an interesting one ( warning: some of the details may be a little unpleasant). Typically, you expect that when a little one has a hernia in the lower abdomen area that there will be fat masses and/or intestines that protrude through the muscle wall. However, for our little Chikita, it was her uterus! Yes, the mass that was hanging from her belly was actually her uterus and sadly, she was carrying deceased puppies that her body had begun to resorb. We are sad for this little girl and what she has had to endure but are very thankful that we got her when we did and were able to get her taken care of. We understand that it is heartbreaking to hear about puppies that have died but we would be dishonest if we said we are not thankful that her pregnancy did not last and that she was unable to carry any puppies to term. Its obvious that this little girl has brought enough unwanted litters into this world and so very many sad souls are still waiting for their rescue in shelters across the nation. Unfortunately, until the breeding stops and irresponsible pet owners begin to better care for their pets and have them spayed/neutered, animal advocates everywhere will be working tirelessly to find good, safe and loving homes for those who have been abandoned. On a positive note...this little soul has a home waiting for her in Sugar Hill, Ga once she has made a full recovery!! Chikita will get her Happy Ending!!
