*UPDATE VIC* Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts Issued at 4:34 pm EDT on Saturday 1 November 2014. Weather Situation A deep low pressure system is passing just south of Tasmania and an associated cold front lies over far eastern Victoria. A vigorous and unstable west to southwesterly airflow will affect southern Victoria for the remainder of Saturday. DAMAGING WINDS of 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts 90 to 100 km/h are forecast for the South West, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts for the remainder of Saturday afternoon and evening. The area close to the coast will be most affected and the strongest gusts should continue to be in association with showers. Winds will ease significantly inland after 8pm. St Kilda breakwater recorded a gust of 102 km/h shortly after 3pm and Mt Gellibrand recorded the same speed at 4:30pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
