UPDATE and ADVICE Hey guys, wanted to give a quick update on our Senior E-Lister we brought home yesterday. He is such a sweet boy. He is really just an easy going, laid back gentlemen. He has got a few goofy quirks and were still trying to figure out who this senior dude really is. A few of his favorite things include: Fluffy blankets, Grass, Naps, Snack time, Making friends, Snuggling for short periods of time, Finding food that people forgot to eat on the counters, Grumbling while he rolls around the carpet, Ear scratches, Going outside, Open doors leading to the outdoors, trying to bolt out of those doors,Skipping bath time, ALL THE TIME, Laying out in the sun being perfectly content, Laying inside where its cool and panting like hes in a sauna And his favorite thing EVER....... Chicken Nuggets. He has done really well with the other dogs but has shown some aggression towards the momma kitty we have here. She has her own room in the back of the house so it is not an issue that needs to be addressed immediately but she has 5 kittens that will be roaming around here soon. Last night he saw her for the first time through a cracked door and lunged to get her. He isnt very fast or strong but I believe he could do some damage if given enough time or opportunity. Especially with the kittens. This all happened around 2 am and he spent the rest of the night intent on getting into that room. I ended up hauling in a bunch of wood, chairs and other random outdoor fixtures to try and assemble a barricade that he couldnt get through. I finally succeeded but didnt feel like he would have been safe if he were to try and get past it. Needless to say, I am needing to find a way to get and keep them all separated and safe, while at the same time, keeping both happy or at least content. The barricade also caused him to cry quite a bit when he knew he couldnt get to him. It was a long night. We tried kenneling him instead of ladybird but still cried a little. Anyways, wondering if anyone has dealt with this before and also if its a good possibility he will not be super trainable for the remainder of his life. He doesnt hear well and is sometimes hard to correct because of that Obviously :) Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
