UPDATE from Etz Chaim Synagogue Important Update on the Intersection of San Jose Blvd and Haley Road We are still coming to terms with the horrible tragedy that took place on Yom Kippur Eve. We have begun a serious campaign of bringing serious changes that will improve the safety of congregants coming to shul. Rabbi Fisch has been in contact with elected officials from the State of Florida including the office of Governor Rick Scott. There are several options on the table that have been presented to the Florida Department of Transportation. There is a meeting set up with State Representative Charles McBurney, Regional Secretary of Transportation, and other officials from the Department of Transportation with the leadership of the shul in the coming days to move this process forward. Our ultimate goal is to improve the safety of all the pedestrians walking to shul on Shabbos and Yom Tov. We have also taken measures for this Yom Tov with the cooperation of the Florida Highway Patrol. For the two days of Yom Tov and Shabbos Sept. 19 -21, there will be a state trooper on this intersection ensuring that congregants can cross in a safe manner as they leave from shul. The law enforcement official will be there from 12:30 pm -1:30 pm. Additionally for the evening services on September 18th-20th the state trooper will be present from 8:00 pm -9:00 pm. We respectfully request that as much as possible to cross the boulevard in a group setting. Sincerely , Etz Chaim Synagogue
