*UPDATE* from the NSW Police Force Re: Robbery of elderly woman in Banora Point on october 24th ~ A man has been charged after an elderly woman’s handbag was taken by a man who got into her vehicle in the state’s north last Friday. About 10am (Friday 24 October 2014), a 78-year-old woman returned to her Banora Point home and drove into her garage, after being at a bank at a shopping centre in Tweed Heads. Police have been told as she was still sitting in the driver’s seat; a man got into the car and sat in the passenger’s seat. The man had a short conversation with the woman, before allegedly grabbing her handbag and getting out of the car. He then got into the passenger’s seat of a vehicle that was waiting out the front, which drove away. The woman, who was not injured in the incident, contacted police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command. They conducted patrols of the area, but did not locate the vehicle involved. Following extensive inquiries, yesterday (Thursday 30 October 2014), police arrested a 40-year-old man at a caravan park in Hastings Point. He was subsequently charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, steal from dwelling and possess prohibited drug. The man has been refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court on Friday 2 December 2014. Meanwhile, police are continuing to search for a second person involved in this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
