UPDATE on Letter from Mom whose 18yr old son will be going to community college, living at home, and (so he says) smoking pot (See yesterdays post for entire letter). My reply: I think you already know the answer to this one. But it sounds like you need some encouragement to do the right thing. Okay here goes: do not allow your older son to smoke pot and or be disrespectful to you in your home. That would send a totally inappropriate (aka wrong) message to him and to your younger son. Lay down the rules and conditions for his continuing to live at home. If he is willing to abide 100%, then he gets to stay. If not then no. One more thing, he needs to understand that he is not just a border in your home, in exchange for not paying rent he and his younger brother should be helping out around the house on a regular and consistent basis. Thats the way to instill in kids the sense that being part of the family means that we are all on the same Team. I hope this helps. In friendship, Annie
