UPND MP COMPLAINS ABOUT POLICE BRUTALITY SENANGA Central UPND member of parliament Likando Mufalali says he has complained to Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Matibini about police brutality. Mufalali said two armed officers twisted his hands and pulled him out of his car after officers in the Inspector General’s motorcade accused him of obstruction. He said before the officers descended on him, they demanded his identification which they tore in view of onlookers. “When I was going to get my ID from the car, that’s when they pulled me from the car and twisted by hands and attempted to grab the car keys and in the process we broke them. When I told them I was a member of parliament, they told me my ID was rubbish and didn’t care,” Mufalali said. He said the officers broke the keys as a way of punishing him. Mufalali said all this happened in full view of Libongani who had parked 200 metres away. “When I went to get a report at Central Police, I was almost refused and they told me to go to Emmasdale Police Station but someone attended to me after which I went to the hospital for treatment. My lawyers are on standby, but I am writing to the Speaker to complain because that ID is for his institution, not me,” said Mufalali. Police have since stated that Libongani’s vehicle is a VIP one which should not be followed closely by any individual because that raises suspicion. postzambia/news.php?id=533
