UPND REITERATES DEMANDS FOR NEW CONSTITUTION UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has maintained that PF government must heed calls by the many Zambians to release the final draft constitution and enact a new constitution for the nation. Speaking during a media briefing at the party secretariat in Lusaka, Hichilema said his party will not stop advocating for the enactment of a people driven constitution. He said that he was in full support of the opposition MPs’ recent protest in the national assembly over the constitution. Hichilema who was censured and summoned by speaker Patrick Matibini for allegedly undermining the integrity of the house said the move was aimed at intimidating him but that he looked forward to being called before the select committee where he was ready to perform. “I looked forward to that call out but sad enough I was not allowed the opportunity as it had to be withdrawn prematurely, I tell you I was going to perform in that house on that day,” said Hichilema, causing sparks of laughter and ululations from the audience. And during the same occasion, some members from the PF and other parties defected to join what they termed as Zambia’s fastest growing party, the UPND. The defectors were led by former PF official Victor Chilufya Bupe and former MMD MP and Chavuma DC Jerry Musole Mulozhi. The defectors said they had decided to join UPND because it has proved to be a champion of good governance and economic management, which were lacking under the PF regime.
