UPSCALING OF REFUSE COLLECTION SERVICE IN MATSAPHA Matsapha, as the industrial hub of Swaziland, houses a number of industries, thereby resulting in large volumes of waste being generated on daily basis. Subsequent to the extension of the Matsapha urban area boundaries in 2010 and 2012, Matsapha has seen waste tonnages disposed at the landfill increase even more. In her quest to provide continued efficient service delivery, Matsapha Town Council (MTC) deemed it necessary to procure another refuse truck with a higher carrying capacity in order to meet the growing demand for refuse collection. However, on the other hand, Council is working tirelessly to explore other more sustainable waste management options. Plans are underway to start a Waste Minimization Programme in order to reduce the amount of waste that find its way into the landfill. A new refuse collection schedule has therefore been developed. The schedule states the specific times at which the refuse truck will collect refuse from specific collection points.
