URBAN GARDENS......SAN FRANCISCO is set to become the first city - TopicsExpress

URBAN GARDENS......SAN FRANCISCO is set to become the first city in California to enact a state law giving tax breaks to owners who turn empty lots into Urban Gardens. The law allows cities and towns to lower the assessed value of the land and therefor lower the property taxes if owners dedicate them to growing food for at least 5 years. San Francisco is the first to put the state law into effect because the county board has already approved the ordinance. I wonder how many empty lots they have in San Francisco. Id love to see them bulldoze the empty buildings and use them for this purpose. In Lakewood we dont have a ton of empty buildings, but the ones we do have, the way I understand it, is the owner of the property/buildings raise the rent so high the businesses leave, then the owner gets a tax break because of empty buildings. hmmmm, how to find out if thats true... Anyway, SO glad to hear of the Urban Garden tax breaks, and if the farmers give food to the property owners theyll go way beyond 5 years. NOW, as long as Monsanto is NOT involved, this sounds FANtastic!!! I assume its organic GMO free gardening?
