URGENT ACTION NEEDED! CALL your Illinois State Senator and State Rep. in Springfield Legislation has been filed in the Illinois General Assembly to clarify that the practice of physical therapy in Illinois includes non-surgical invasive techniques, such as dry needling. Please contact your Illinois state legislators today and ask them to support HB 1457 Amendment 2! The legislature will be in session in Springfield over the Memorial Day weekend, so please contact their Springfield offices as soon as possible. The proposed legislation is necessary to clarify physical therapist scope of practice in Illinois after an informal opinion was issued in April by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. That opinion indicated that the scope of practice for physical therapists in Illinois does not include any invasive techniques. It is critical that you contact legislators to let them know that physical therapists have been performing various invasive techniques for decades, and the IDFPR opinion needs to be corrected.
