URGENT APPEAL EGG laying chickens are being offered to people who can provide them with a happy home. Oak Tree Farm in Higham on the Hill is offering more than 5,000 chickens to residents across the area to save them from slaughter. It is understood that the owner of the farm is a commercial egg producer, and keeps thousands of chickens on the farm throughout the year. However due to regulations the chickens can only be kept on the farm for 12 months, and new owners are being sought to give the chickens a happy home. The animals are being sold for £2.50 each and are capable of laying eggs for more than two years. People can buy as many as they want in order to save them from being killed. The feathered hens will be taken to slaughter on Tuesday, July 22 so people are urged to come quick to secure their survival. People can visit the farm to buy the chickens from Friday, July 18 till Monday, July 21 between 9am and 5pm. Anyone wishing to buy a bird is asked to bring a box or a carrier for transportation.
