URGENT CARE TO RE-OPEN AT HIGH RIVER HOSPITAL July 9, 2013 Urgent Care to reopen at High River Hospital, July 10 Starting Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. 24-hour Urgent Care services will open at the High River Hospital Emergency Department with local staff and community physicians displaced from the Charles Clark Medical Centre and the Highwood Health Centre. “I thank the people of High River for their patience while the facility was being cleaned and repaired,” said Health Minister Fred Horne. “I also thank our health care staff for their incredible efforts during difficult and challenging circumstances.” “This is a vital step in the rebuilding of this community,” said Rick Fraser, Associate Minister of Regional Recovery and Reconstruction for High River. “Having access to urgent care is especially important with the higher risk of injury while people are working to restore their community.” Urgent Care services are for non-life threatening emergencies, such as sprains, cuts and broken bones that require same day or evening treatment. Urgent Care teams typically consist of nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and are supported by on-site laboratory and X-ray departments. “Our priority is restoring essential services as quickly and safely as possible,” said Dr. Francois Belanger, Senior Vice President and Zone Medical Director, Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone. “Our staff, leaders and community physicians have worked very hard to maintain care and re-establish services during this unprecedented event.” High River staff deployed to the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre will now return to High River. The Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre will return to regular service hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Other nearby emergency departments and urgent care centres are the Oilfields General Hospital in Black Diamond and South Health Campus in Calgary. The High River Low Risk Obstetrics Clinic will continue to operate from the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre until further notice. For up-to-date information on flood recovery, log onto alberta.ca.
