URGENT! Call state leadership now and ask for special session to pass Office of Early Childhood. These three phone calls are the most critical of the entire legislative session! The Governor or Legislature can call for a Special Session to fix the problem by passing H.B. 6359 into law, and therefore statutorily creating an Office of Early Childhood. The message is: "You must hold a Special Session to enact H.B. 6359 that creates an Office of Early Childhood. Passage of this bill is needed to implement the budget and ensure children receive early childhood services on July 1." Governor Dannel P. Malloy 860-566-4840 1-800-406-1527 House Speaker Brendan Sharkey 860-240-8500 1-800-842-1902 Senate President Donald Williams 860-240-8614 1-800-842-1420 Background information: As you know, the state budget moves funding for early childhood programs from four state agencies into an Office of Early Childhood (OEC). However, despite broad bi-partisan support, the Legislature failed to call H.B. 6359 for a vote, which would have statutorily established an Office of Early Childhood and transferred early childhood programs into the OEC. The failure to enact H.B. 6359 means that the state budget moves early childhood funds into an OEC - an entity that does not legally exist. This mismatch creates a serious problem that needs to be fixed. Questions? If you have questions, please contact Maggie Adair at (860) 878-8936 or adair.ceca@gmail.
