Contact Amy Scarella - little black dog rescue PLEASE SHARE From rescuer in GA: We saved LEENA in early May 2014 - A week before she was picked up by animal control on a country road in Monticello GA ( a rural part of the state about 90 minutes southeast of Atlanta ) She was dragging a heavy logging chain that was embedded around her neck and under the front of her chest. Somehow shed gotten loose and was trying to find safety - Its very common in this poor rural area for dogs to be chained with these very thick and heavy chains that are used on logging trucks -Animal control took her straight to have it welded off as they couldnt even cut it off. The entire time this malnourished dog wagged her tail - The chain was so deep it had cut into the skin atleast 3 inches -- She was taken to animal control - not a vet - ugh - and they just put her in a pen. When we saw her she was already starting to heal but the wounds were covered in flies. No doubt she would have had maggots shortly - The day we saw her we put her in our car and headed back to Atlanta. A vet met us on a Sunday afternoon - and on Monday she had surgery to have the open sores flushed out and treated with heavy duty antibiotics. Leena spent almost 5 weeks there - and was a perfect girl the whole time. She fostered in Atlanta in a home with many dogs and did GREAT - She was adopted to a couple in CT this summer and the first night was cuddled on the chair with their dog. Shes a very sweet dog - but they complained of her having separation anxiety and clearing their fence. This wasnt a problem at all in her foster home - she was a gem. She had a HORRIBLE start in life - and is so ready for the chance she deserves. We think a home where someone is home - or she can go to work with them or doggie day care - she would love a dog buddy - and great with older kids.
