URGENT OPEN LETTER TO THE IRISH STATE Could the Irish State - TopicsExpress

URGENT OPEN LETTER TO THE IRISH STATE Could the Irish State please act with care and consideration for children at December 10ths event at Merrion Square, during which the crowd will be stationary, having completed the moving part of the march. A gig is to take place at Merrion Square wherein there will also be speeches made from the stage. While it is wonderful to assume everything will be 100 % peaceful (and I do assume that, as much as yourselves or the Irish people or the organisers of the stationary event) it is a matter of significant concern to me as a person who for a living is familiar with crowds that there is no special area being set aside for children at Merrion Square. When I spoke with organisers of the event I was told no such area would or could be provided. In any large and stationary musical/political event such as this, where safety of all kinds would be an issue, I find it hard to believe the State nor the organisers have considered this. I ought not be surprised perhaps, since 67 % of Irish people didnt bother voting in The Childrens Rights referendum. It is my opinion the State having driven the people into the streets is inconsiderate of the fact that grown-up arguments ought not happen in the presence of children. Since children are going to be present could the State at least keep them safe. After everything we have learned regarding child protection and welfare in our recent history, I am stunned by the blindness of all involved here. It is far easier to keep a moving crowd safe than a stationary one at such an event, please see the sense of this. Sinead OConnor
