US Open Tennis Championships Mens Draw Analysis Top Half Novak Djokovic (Seed No 1) Round 1: Diego Schwartzman Round 2: Paul Henri Mathieu/ Giles Muller Round 3: Sam Querry/ Guillermo Garcia Lopez Round 4: John Isner/ Philipp Kohlschreiber Quarter Finals : Jo Wilfried Tsonga/ Andy Murray Semi Finals : Milos Raonic/ Stan Wawrinka Finals : Roger Federer/ Grigor Dimitrov/ Tomas Berdych The top seed has got a pretty hell of a draw. Though the first round should be pretty much of a cake walk for the five time finalist, it gets pretty tricky right from the second round itself. Will be pitied against experienced P H Mathieu or Challenger circuit floater Giles Muller, known for his big serves. And there is no respite there on. Following it with possible clash with home support backed Sam Querry or Garcia Lopez, and even harder 4th round against John Isner(Who could be knocked out soon due to his injury troubles) or Philip Kohlschriber. With Andy Murray pretty much out of form, possible re-match with Tsonga in quarters is a real possibility, following it with a possible semi final match up against AO nemisis Stan Wawrinka or Big serving Raonic. A hard draw considering his form, but unlike the 3 setter masters, it takes a lot of endurance and will to defeat Djokovic in 5 setters. Possibly will be little troubled till he reaches quarters, from where he could face some real heat. A tough path for the 2013 finalist. Stanislas Wawrinka(Seed No 3) Round 1: Jiri Vesely Round 2: Mahut/ T Bellucci Round 3: Chardy/ D Young Round 4: Tommy Robredo/ Vasek Pospisil/ Nick Kyrgios/ Youzny Quarter Finals : Raonic/ Kei Nisikori Semi Finals : Djokovic/ Andy Murray/ Tsonga Finals : Roger Federer/ Grigor Dimitrov/ Tomas Berdych On the top what looks like an easier draw is quite tricky right from the first round. Jiri Vesely, an upcoming youngster, could spring up a surprise. Also, a potential clash with unpredictable D Young in the third round is on cards. Round 16 could get interesting, with the prospect of facing Robredo, who defeated Roger at the same stage a year ago. It becomes pretty straight forward Quarters onwards. Could face on-form Raonic for a spot in semi-final, where a potential re-match with Djokovic cannot be ruled out. A spot in final could be a real possibility, if we get to see the Stan from AO, and not the one from FO. Milos Raonic(Seed No 5) Round 1: Qualifier Round 2: Qualifier/ Becker Round 3: Lukas Rosol/ Igor Sijsling Round 4: Kei Nishikori/ Jack Sock Quarter Finals : Wawrinka/ Robredo Semi Finals : Djokovic/ Andy Murray/ Tsonga Finals : Roger Federer/ Grigor Dimitrov/ Tomas Berdych Possibly has the easier draws amongst the seeds in the top half, has a pretty much straight forward path till round 4. With his experience in hard courts, Rosol or Becker, if he faces them, may not be able to trouble much the Canadian missile. In 4th round, the prospect of facing fellow rising star Nishikori cannot be ruled out, who is struggling with injury. But things start getting tougher from Quarters onwards for Raonic, who could face Wawrinka for a spot in semis, and Djokovic in the semis. A relatively easier path, could reach the semis/ finals if he plays some good quality tennis and reduces his errors. Andy Murray(Seed No 8) Round 1: Robin Hasse Round 2: Qualifier/Radek Stepanek Round 3: Verdasco/Kuznetsov Round 4: Tsonga/ Benneteau Quarter Finals : Djokovic/ Isner Semi Finals : Milos Raonic/ Stan Wawrinka Finals : Roger Federer/ Grigor Dimitrov/ Tomas Berdych A very tricky draw right from the start for the Brit. Could face Radek Stepanek right in the second round, who gave Djokovic good trouble in Wimbledon. A clash with Verdasco could be tough for the Brit, following it with a pretty tough R4 and quarters awaiting him. A very tough draw, coupled with a poor form. Chances are high that he could be knocked out well before quarters. But Murray did win the USO in 2012, when he wasnt a prime favorite. Needs to be at his best to go beyond quarters, where he might face Djokovic. Bottom Half Roger Federer(Seed No 2) Round 1: Matosevic Round 2: Groth/ Albert Ramos Round 3: Ivo Karlovic/ Jurgen Melzer Round 4: Fognini/ Bautista Agut Quarter Finals :Dimitrov/ Gasquet Semi Finals : Ferrer/Berdych Finals : Djokovic/ Murray/ Raonic Luck definitely favors the topmost seed at bottomhalf. Nadals withdrawal ensured that he wont be facing Djokovic before the finals. And add that a draw which any Federer fan would have loved to have. His possible opponents have barely defeated him anytime in his career, leave alone once/twice. A very smooth path till the quarters, where he could meet Dimitrov, a real threat. But the fact that Dimitrov hasnt progressed beyond round one, will be definitely favoring Federer. Fedex fans wont be satisfied unless the magical no 18 is achieved at the USO this year, which is a possible senario, going by the draw. David Ferrer(Seed No 4) Round 1: Dzuhmur Round 2: Tomic/ Brown Round 3: Giles Simon/ Delbonis Round 4: Cilic/ Kevin Anderson Quarter Finals :Berdych/Feliciano Lopez Semi Finals : Federer/ Dimitrov Finals : Djokovic/ Murray/ Raonic A pretty see-sawish draw for the Spaniard. A testing 2nd round awaits him, where he could face either erratic Tomic or Dustin Brown. Following it up with some possible quality match-ups against Giles Simon, Cilic/Anderson. Considering his form, he could reach Quarters without much of a problem, where he could face form-deprived Tomas Berdych for a possible Semi-final battle against Federer/Dimitrov. Reasonable draw, but any performance bettering Quarters will be considered a good one for the Spaniard. Tomas Berdych (Seed No 6) Round 1: Hewitt Round 2: Qualifier/ Klizan Round 3: Gabashvilli/ Giraldo Round 4: Gulbis/ Thiem Quarter Finals :Ferrer/ Cilic/ Anderson Semi Finals : Federer/ Dimitrov Finals : Djokovic/ Murray/ Raonic Tomas Berdych is having a pretty mediocre year according to his standards. Apart from that pulsating semi-final finish at AO, his performances have been below par throughout the year. Age could be catching up to the big man from Cezh Republic, but he still has the raw power and shots to give the big 4 a run for their money. But he has a very tricky draw, right from the first round. He will face former champion Lleyton Hewitt, who has shown time and again that injuries is something he thrives on. If he passes that test, it is pretty much a easy draw till the quarters, apart from a possible clash against Gulbis/ Thiem. A quarters clash against Ferrer could be really exciting, but again, the possibility that he will reach there, and progress further, is slim considering his form. But watch out for the big man. Grigor Dimitrov(Seed No 7) Round 1: Ryan Harrison Round 2: Sela/ Berlocq Round 3: Goffin/Sousa Round 4: Gasquet/Monfils Quarter Finals :Federer/ Bautista Agut Semi Finals : Berdych/ Ferrer Finals : Djokovic/ Murray/ Raonic Dimitrov, who hasnt gone beyond Round 1 in his previous attempts, will look to get the things straight at this years USO. But has a pretty mixed draw, including a dangerous first round clash against Ryan Harrison, and possible clash against threatening David Goffin. He could meet baseline sluggers Gasquet or Monfils in Round 4, and further, Federer in Quarters. If he manages to go beyond the quarters, a title run cannot be ruled out for the talented Bulgarian. A dark horse in everyones eyes, as far as this years USO is concerned... Analysis by: Tennis Sportwalk
