US concerned Myanmar will put noncitizens in camps Associated Press 3rd October 2014 1 hour ago WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. says under Myanmars draft action plan to address tension between Buddhists and stateless Muslims, those who do not receive citizenship will be held in temporary camps. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki expressed U.S. concern over the provision Friday. She urged Myanmar to incorporate suggestions from the international community for the plans revision and implementation. The plan is meant to sectarian tensions in western Rakhine State, where Buddhist mobs attacks against Rohingya Muslims have left 140,00 trapped in camps. Myanmar has said Rohingya will have a chance to become naturalized citizens if they can show theyve been in the country for three generations, although it wont recognize them as an ethnic group. The government has long viewed the estimated 1.3 million Rohingya as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
