USA, Britain Storm Nigeria -Lead List For Warri Relays/CAA Grand Prix By Oke Oluku Barely few months after hosting the maiden edition of the Africa Youth Athletics Championship (AYAC Warri 2013), Warri will again this Friday 14th June host the 2013 Warri Relays/CAA Golden Grand Prix. According to the Head of Communications and Media, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Olukayode Thomas, athletes from USA, Great Britain, Ghana, Morocco and other parts of the world will start arriving Nigeria from Monday to participate in the CAA premium event. Olukayode said ‘A’ grade events at this year’ edition include the Men 100m, and 400m. For the Women, the ‘A’ events are 100m, 400m, and 400m huddles while the classic events for Men are the 5000m, Javelin, Long Jump, Women-100m huddles, High Jump, and the Long Jump. Apart from the premium and classic events, there are also some promotional events which include 110m huddles, 3000m SC, 4x100m & 4x400m for men while the women have the 800m, 5000m, 4x100m & 4x400m. Olukayode also said competitions for positions in the individual events will be stiff base on the juicy prize money for top finishers, the relay events will be more competitive as it provides opportunities for countries that have not qualified for the relay events of the 2013 World Championships in Athletics slated for Russia to qualify. The Warri Relays/CAA Golden Prix is a one day premium event in the calendar of CAA, with the top three countries in the relays to be presented with medals; as there is no prize money for relay winners, while each participating nation will be responsible for their international transportation. Like it is done in other parts of the world, the meet organizers would only be responsible for local transportation, accommodation and feeding within Nigeria of a maximum of 5 athletes per relay event per team.
