USA to battle Argentina for third place For the second year in a row the United States (Carlitos Gracida, Andres Weisz, Nic Roldan and Mike Azzaro) will face an Argentine polo team (Pablo Dorignac, Tomas Ruiz Guinazu, Agustin Marquez and Martin Tassara) in the subsidiary round of the 2014 Fortune Heights Super Nations Cup at the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Club of China. In last year’s competition the US team lost their opening match to England in overtime, but the host Hong Kong team proved to be more than the Americans were ready for. Coming up on the losing end of a 13-6 score the United States foursome had to sit on the sidelines for Thursday’s second semifinal match to see who they would face in the subsidiary round of the tournament. This year’s English team (Jack Richardson, George Meyrick, Max Charlton and Tom Morley) took the second game from Argentina, 10-8, earning their second consecutive final berth where they would once again face a Hong Kong team (John Fisher, Santiago Cernadas, John Paul Clarkin and Lucas Lalor). The United States salvaged a third place finish last year by defeating Argentina in the subsidiary match while Hong Kong went on to win the tournament final in a romp over England. Different lineups from all four teams will make this year’s final two matches unpredictable as the players will be playing for pride in the subsidiary cup and for honor in the tournament final.
