USUDA Business The USUDC at Purdue is just over 9 weeks away! Membership in the USUDA continues to grow (in spurts), and we are now at 27 members. Any college or university can join at this thread: bpforum.yaledebate.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2319 A primary purpose of the USUDA is to provide transparency in the bidding and voting processes for the USUDC (https://docs.google/document/d/1HsC5kGVQxbASjDnFGO4AfipLZSd5bvCBj-u0GFHLQr8/edit?usp=sharing). To this end, the USUDA will have an advisory council. Any member can volunteer to fill a position on the advisory council. These volunteer positions technically do not begin until the conclusion of the USUDC, but people can volunteer at any time prior on the following thread: bpforum.yaledebate.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2343 The one volunteer position that will be necessary at Purdue (for what should be obvious reasons) is Parliamentarian. If counting votes and keeping minutes is your thing, you are in luck. This position is currently vacant! The primary business at Purdue will be the selection of the host of the 2016 USUDC. Ithaca College has indicated that they plan on submitting a bid. While I am somewhat biased in favor of Ithaca (its a relatively short drive for us), it might be in the best interest of everyone if there was more than one bid. BP debating is now well established in the Northeast, and the growth of this format in this region is in part the result of hosting two high-quality USUs at Vermont. Perhaps an institution in a place where BP is just beginning to grow (like the South) would like to prepare a bid for 2016? While theres no official bid coordinator at this time, there are people who have expressed willingness to help prepare bids. Rob Ruiz ([email protected]) and Mary Nugent (marynugent@gmail) have both indicated (either on this Facebook group or to me) that they would provide insight to interested parties. Eric Barnes of HWS ([email protected]) has advised folks in the past and has experience running world-class events (although Im volunteering him here without checking with him first). Im sure there are many others willing to help as well, and I encourage them to chime in.
