USUDAN CLINCHES MASTERS TITLE IN FOBR 2005 HAJ GOODWILL GAMES By: Noli T. Ritual Riyadh, Jan. 29 Rudy Usudan crushed Edwin Atienza, 183-180, in the finals to bag the coveted masters title in the just concluded 2005 Haj Goodwill Games at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. The resounding success of the 2005 Haj Goodwill Games was organized by the newly elected officers of the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) through the combined efforts of Mar Balmeo, Chairman, Ernee Noto Director for External Affairs, Pido Villarosa and Alma Lee, Directors for Internal Affairs, Jojo Demetrio and Prima Abulencia, Directors for Technical Affairs, Mario Reyes and Vivian Cuevas, Directors for Membership and Ian Choco, Secretary and in cooperation with the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center. The major sponsors of the tournament are the Saudi Telephone Company (STC) through its President, Mr. Khalid Al-Mulheim who sponsored the haj goodwill games souvenir t-shirts and the Philippine Airlines who sponsored a round trip air ticket (Riyadh-Manila-Riyadh) through its country manager, Mr. Jun Ordillano. The co-sponsors are the Sky Freight Forwarders, Inc. who donated 25 kgs. sea cargo certificates through its regional manager, central region, Mr. Jimmy Hugo and the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) who covered the event through its TFC correspondent in Riyadh, Mr. Roland Blanco. The donors are the Power Horse Energy Drink and the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel. Usudan, a Class A bowler made it to the master’s finals by occupying the top spot with a 6-game series scratch of 1,192 pinfalls. Earlier, Atienza who finished third after the six games knocked out Usudan in a nail biting match with a score of 180-171 to arrange a showdown with Usudan. But Usudan waxed hot in the head-to-head matches to humble Atienza by three points (183-180) to romp-away the title. Aside of winning the title, Usudan won a round trip air ticket (Riyadh-Manila-Riyadh) sponsored by the Philippine Airlines during the grand raffle draw held during the prize-giving. Earlier, JB Valerio, the fourth finisher upset the number five finisher, Arcie Consolacion (225-158) to arrange a showdown with the number three finisher, Edwin Atienza. Because of the pressure of the games, Atienza and Valerio ended their games at 167-140, in favor of Atienza. In the next game, Atienza faced the number two finisher, the veteranYuli Braganza and at the start of action, Atienza exploded a four strikes in a row, from frame 1 to frame 4 while Braganza made two strikes in frame four and five but in the penultimate action, Atienza seared to beat Braganza by scoring 233 against Braganza’s 210.
