UTSU Elections are underway for the next few days and you can now - TopicsExpress

UTSU Elections are underway for the next few days and you can now vote from the comfort of your bed (or your Robarts/Graham/Library Desk)! I encourage all U of T students NOT to boycott this election and vote. Its simple, takes very little of your time and there is an actual choice with an opportunity for change this year. TL;DR I would encourage you to vote for Team Unite at UofT in all of the constituencies. Their Executive slate is Ye Huang, Pierre Harfouche, Baliqis Olaitan, Nicky Bhatty and Chenchen Anna Yin - all of whom I have met at some point in the past few weeks and I am confident that they are the real deal. Their platforms are available on their Facebook page. I would also support VOTE Maha Naqi for At-Large Arts and Science Director and Kevin Lunianga for the Arts & Science At-Large UTSU Director position - both are great friends and I am confident in their ability to represent Arts&Science students to the UTSU. Patrick Andison is also a non-brainer for Trinity Board seat. I think Aidan Fishman succinctly made the case - and you can read his thoughts here: https://facebook/aidan.fishman/posts/10203201417538038 - but Id like to take a few moments to say some thoughts. Clearly Ive made my opinion heard on the UTSU, incumbent slates and the CFS over the past three years. A vote for Team Voice is a vote for the status quo: non-stop fighting, controversy and downright corruption/incompetence. Among the various sins of the UTSU, they have violated the Canada Corporations Act (proxy voting at the Board, refusal to provide access for the Board to important documents), theyve refused to participate in good faith at the Student Societies Summit and they continue with severely sketchy procedures that undermine student democracy (revolving door with the CFS, non-UofT students campaigning, compromised CRO and ERC - Pres Munib Sajjad is the chair of the ERC). Colleges will continue to be marginalized and well continue to pursue fee diversion or other measures. Im convinced that Team Unite has what it takes to fix this mess, work with the Colleges to get them involved in the governance process and to reform the democratic and accountability processes. Their platforms are comprehensive and answer UTSUs worst problems as well as important student issues: focus on mental health, working with the university administration and not against it, promising monthly financial reports to keep them accountable. These are only a few of the reasons why Team Unite is worthy of your vote. You have until Thursday from 9:00AM to 6:30PM to vote - online or at specific locations. I urge you to vote for Team Unite, Maha and Patrick, but at the very least I hope you vote! Happy Elections/Essay season!
