UTTARAKHAND DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES 2013 : Natural disasters know no boundaries; as you are aware that our state of Uttarakhand had experienced a worst kind of a disaster during these days. Entire villages, roads & properties were washed away by flash floods. Thousands of people both residents & tourist have gone missing. SFWS pays their homage & sympathy to those who have lost their lives, those who are missing & pray for those who are still battling to save their lives and are awaiting evacuation . Prayers also go out to the families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones or are awaiting news about their missing family and friends. SFWS pays thanks to everyone who put in their efforts in this disastrous time and extended their support to the victims. After the initial rescue and mitigation activities, many affected hills areas in Uttarakhand require delivery of food, clean drinking water, and interim shelters. SFWS delivers such supplies—often in situations where civil turmoil has erupted due to the deprivations that come with disruption and disaster. In addition to attending to the basic needs of the victims, disaster recovery services also work to rebuild damaged infrastructure and sanitations services. These recovery efforts start immediately and can go on for months or even years. Besides this, we are able to do following work in disaster and emergencies: • Feeding stations • Shelter • Cleaning supplies • Comfort kits, first aid • Food (dry ration), Clothing, Linen & Toiletries • Emergency transportation • Assistance with rent • Home repairs and household items • Medical supplies One of the challenges faced by nonprofit organization that provide disaster relief is the tapering off of support. When disaster first strikes, everyone wants to help, however, as the shock wears off and media coverage declines, so do the donations. The need persists and disaster relief and recovery activities continue but the response typically diminishes. SFWS may also provide additional assistance for long-term recovery when other relief assistance and/or personal resources are not adequate to meet disaster-caused needs. SFWS appeals for your generous contributions (finances, food products, clothes, linen, medicines, toiletries, shelters etc.) towards this worthy cause. We strive to do our best.
