Uduaghan Task Corps Members On Peace, Devt BY ANDY AKENI DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has charged the over 3,000 Batch B corps members posted to the state to use their privileged positions to bring about peace and development to the country. The governor also warned the corps members to be cautious in all their activities adding that the period is a tempting one that could be detrimental and poses dangers if not well handled. Dr. Uduaghan represented by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Hope Eghagha, gave the charge yesterday during the closing ceremony from camp for Batch ‘B’ Corps members at Issele-Uku. According to the governor, “as future leaders, you are expected to be discreet and objective in your analysis of national events to enable you play the mediating and stabilising roles of bringing peace, unity and development to the nation”. Through the orientation course, you have been equipped with leadership qualities of perseverance, endurance, discipline, selflessness, sacrifice and ability to live amicably with others from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and so use these qualities to enhance the peaceful coexistence of our dear country, the governor advised. The state chief executive also implored the corps members to be part of the sustainable development efforts of the Delta State Government by keying into the various skills acquisition programmes they were taught while in camp and make good use of the centres that are located in all the local government areas of the state. According to the governor, “this administration has deliberately embarked upon the basic provision of infrastructure, opening up the rural areas, making the state more investment friendly and creating veritable economic avenues through which our people will be self-reliant beyond oil”. While saying that the administration is doing all these as part of sustainable development paradigm encapsulated in the three point agenda of peace and security, human and infrastructural development, Dr. Uduaghan assured them that the state is safe and hospitable and urged them to respect the culture and tradition of the people and savour the warm love of the people. You have to assiduously learnt to show understanding and adaptability as a way of justifying some of the reasons for the national service and I urge you to accept the national service with seriousness and patriotism to enable you derive maximum dividends from the service during the period, the governor said.
