Uganda Muslim Youth Assembly third Ramadhan Seminar was successfully held on Sunday July 28 at Kibuli Primary Teacher’s College. Participants were educated on the virtues of marriage in Islam by Sheikh Twahir Walgumba. He said Islam only recognizes marriage between man and woman. Men are supposed to marry women not the vice versa. sheikh Walugunba told participants filled to capacity urging men not fear to marry because women were created for men to marry and have peace. He said marriage is a pillar on which communities are built and unity strengthened among humanity. He taught participants on what to look out when seeking for marriage which include beauty, wealth, status and religion. He said the Prophet SAW advised men to look out for a religious woman if you a man want peace. He outlined responsibilities of a married person to his wives which include feeding, clothing and sheltering. He told men to desist from beating their wives. He said it was an Islamic virtue for Muslim couples to keep their secrets, enjoining each other to do good, helping in house chores and to truly love one another. He added that bringing up upright children is responsibility of both man and woman. He said women are required to respect their husbands within the confines of God’s. “When man forces you to do something which is not allowed by God say to him ‘I fear my God’” Sheikh Twahir told the women. He said it was unlawful for a woman to allow a man into her house, getting out of the house without the permission of the husband and fasting optional days. He said it was improper for a woman to assume leadership of family and advised those who had done so to take back that responsibility because it takes away their peace and create disharmony in the home. He cautioned men from rushing into divorce before carefully considering the circumstances and the religious behavior of the woman. In the same seminar retired Bishop Zac Nyiringiye said Uganda’s problem is not tribal or religious but injustice along ethnic, regional and tribal lines. He said after realizing the corruption scandals in the country and the amount of money wasted during the 2011 elections he decided to resign as Assistant to the Archbishop and embarked on promoting justice and fighting injustice. “I felt that God was calling me to do the work of peace, I decided to resign in order to bring good governance,” Niringiye said. “Our role is to do enjoin people what God wants. God loves justice as stated in our religious books unfortunately some have decided to keep quite due to bribery and those who have come out have been labeled enemies of government,” the Bishop said. “These people who are stealing our money we should hide away from us or isolate them,” Bishop Niringiye advised adding that “our leaders have become bad leaders because they are perpetuating injustice.” He said it is unfortunate that people pay taxes to the thieves are in government and are not willing to accountable to the public. He said the population should now be preoccupied with how to get rid of these bad leaders but not asking whether religious leaders should participate in politics. Other speakers included the resident district commissioner Serere, Abasi Agaba, who said religious leaders should not involve in politics because it dirty. Spiritual leader should not be partisan Abasi argued. Omar Kalinenge Nyago of Justice Forum advised people not to be fooled that religious leaders should not speak out on political injustice.
