Ukhrul, June 7: UO Editorial: Let the cry for justice not fade out Amidst heart-rending pain and trauma, the mortal remains of Ms Reingamphy Awungshi was finally laid to rest on June 7 at her birth place Choithar in Ukhrul district. It is indeed sad that even her final rites had to be delayed for over a week prolonging the pain of her family, thanks to the fact that the law enforcing authority in Delhi attempted to throw out proper investigation into the crime. And while we note this with a heavy heart, we do hope that having done with the last rites will not make the cry for her justice any the less vocal. In fact, friends, supporters, well wishers and a slew of civil society organizations drawn from across the North East region have been relentlessly demanding justice in the case since the day Late Reingamphy was found murdered in her rented accommodation in South Delhi on May 29 last. But given the nasty scheme of things that the Indian administration, particularly the Delhi government is constantly up to, there is a need to reinforce the demands yet again so that the case in hand does not slip away and relegate to the same fate of many previous cases that had died down with the passage of time and much to the content of the mainland India, too. Our poor sister Reingamphy is no more but we can still make her soul rest in peace by according her the justice she deserved and the demands for her justice should be a wake-up call for the whole North East community. Today is the time to buck the trend. Another day may be too late.
