Ulcers in equines are now recognized as a prevalent problem across the board. It was characterized by Dr. Kerry Ridgeway as a man made problem as we have largely removed the horse from its nomadic and grazing/browsing lifestyle for which the equine digestive system was designed. It is an important topic for me as the ulcers and subsequent major colic of one member of our herd drove significant changes in our horse-keeping that has made life better and healthier for all our horses. Key factors being: herd environment, freedom of movement, 24/7 slow feeding of high-quality forage, and eliminating grains and sugars from the diet. This is an excellent article from Dr. Kerry Ridgeway about equine articles and a great place to start. (Article in Comments) TrailGaiter Gaited Horsemanship
