Ultimately cinematography, photography, and storytelling in general is about perspective. You do yourself and your work a disservice by seeking to imitate that which is perceived to be successful. Audience members seek an escape from their own perceptions to, at the very least, find a baseline for their own consciousness, however unaware of it they may be. This is why the key to improving your artwork is to seek to truly understand your own sense of perception. Who are you really and what is it you have to say about the reality you inhabit?
