Umno lawyer: Tganu trio still BN reps By Abdul Hafiz Yatim May 13, 2014 In another twist to the ongoing Terengganu saga, Umno has yet to receive letters from the three assemblypersons who said they are leaving the party to become Independents. As such, Umno legal adviser Hafarizam Harun said the BN still has the executive power and control of the Menteri Besars Office. Any alleged exit to become independent of the BN or Umno by BN assemblypersons can only be effective upon (receipt of) their letters by the Umno or BN secretary-general. To date, no such letters have been received,” Hafarizam said in a text message to Malaysiakini. Hafarizam said hence newly-appointed MB Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman is still the rightful menteri besar. He added PAS cannot form the government until the Terengganu sultan appoints a new MB from the party. To appoint the new menteri besar from PAS, Ahmad Razif must first resign, he said. Hafarizam was one of the lawyers that appeared for Umno and Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir during the silver state’s constitutional crisis in 2009. No dissolution of assembly Malaysiakini is also contacting BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on whether the coalition has received the letters from the three assemblypersons who announced they had quit the party. It was reported that former menteri besar Ahmad Said, who is also Kijal assemblyperson, and Ajil state representative Ghazali Taib announced they had left Umno, along with Roslee Daud who is Bukit Besi assemblyperson. This has resulted in BN and Ahmad Razif to be in a precarious position of having a minority government with 14 state representatives, with PAS 14 and PKR one. In a related development, Terengganu state legislative assembly speaker Zubir Embong has denied rumours that the legislature has been dissolved following the trios departure from Umno. These are merely rumours. It is incorrect, said Zubir told Malaysiakini. The state assembly can only be dissolved after obtaining the consent of the sultan of Terengganu, he added. Terengganu menteri besar must seek an audience with the sultan to obtain the consent to dissolve the assembly. As the speaker, I have not received any notification on a dissolution, he said when contacted by Bernama. Rumours have been circulating via text messages and the WhatsApp facility that the state assembly was dissolved today and state elections will be held in Terengganu within 60 days. Ahmad Razif, when contacted, has asked to refer to Terengganu legal adviser Azhar Abdul Hamid’s statement that BN is still in power.
