Unbelievable as it sounds, FB has deleted my comments about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I am running the post again, just to test it. - If wisdom and foresight were prerequisites to holding positions of global power, many of the worlds movers and shakers (including Balfour) would have been confined to their clubs, drinking scotch and smoking their cigars, instead of drawing maps and irresponsibly deciding the fate of millions around the world. - If the world had been as compassionate toward Hitlers victims as it is toward the poor Palestinians, the state of Israel would probably never have come into being. - If Israel wanted to be a light to the Goyim, it should never have expelled and killed thousands of Palestinians from towns like Ramle and Lydda (and then insisted for decades that all Palestinians had chosen to abandon their homes and flee. (newyorker/magazine/2013/10/21/lydda-1948) - If Arabs cared as much about the suffering of Palestinian refugees as they claim to, the oil-rich countries would have long since invested in improving their lot. - If Hamas et al did not keep reiterating their hope of wiping Israel off the map, Israel would not have made so many grave and heart-wrenching political errors (including the election of Benjamin Netanyahu). - If Israel believed in peace negotiations, it should have put all settlement expansion on hold years ago. - If Israel were less successful as a country, the Arabs might have been more willing to forgive them. - If Arab achievements equaled Israels, there would be fewer men and women willing to become martyrs. The yearning for international respect is one of the chief factors driving terrorists. - I suspect that if Israel were less successful, it would suffer less international opprobrium. Impossible not to wonder why the international community is not as inflamed by Syrias innocent victims. - If Hamas cared more about its children than it does about revenge, there would have been peace long ago. - Even if a peace accord were to be signed tomorrow, there would always be enough extremists to undermine it. There, these are my last words on the subject.
