Under 10s Eagles were hosts in the quarter finals of the league - TopicsExpress

Under 10s Eagles were hosts in the quarter finals of the league cup today welcoming Bishop Auckland Kings. This was always going to be a very competitive match due to a recent 1.1 draw being played out in the league just a few weeks ago. Aycliffe kept most of the possession in the first half with both defences playing well to limit both teams to very few chances. 0.0 HT Team talk really was to have more of the same but to take the chances when they came. Ref blew for the start of the 2nd half with Leo Umudi never letting their defence settle, which caused them to make a mistake. The ball fell to Brennan Fitz who then passed to Calum Whitfield who launched a lovely cross into the path of Alfie Backhouse who finished off well. 1.0. With the soldiers in defence in Kieran Walton & Georgie Johnson it was time to take stock and protect what weve got. The instruction was sent out and the players acknowledged. We were to keep what we’ve got. The result seemed to never be in doubt when a through ball was played by Kings there forward unleashed a shot.........my heart started to sink, is this to be another extra time.....I cant take anymore of this these thoughts all came in a millisecond when out stretched Keeper Luke Aitkens arm to make a magnificent save. This was to finish of a great team effort and Aycliffe Youth to march on into the semi finals 1.0 FT MOTM was awarded to the team. Thanks for the support from Bernard Borsberry Helen Clark, Molly and all the parents it really does mean a lot.
