“Underlings And Mercenaries Are Plunging Our Country” - Marafa writes Cameroon Journal, Yaounde, Mar. 27 – Marafa Hamidou Yaya is once more swinging from behind the iron curtain at his kondengue maximum-security prison. In yet another letter, the 8th of its kind, addressed to President Biya, subject matter related to the murder of his former aide, Christiane Soppo Mbango, Marafa alleges that gov’t hirelings killed her, and he wants the regime to take the investigation seriously. In the letter, Marafa describes the death of Soppo as a political assassination. Asserting that she became a target because “she remained faithful to me even after my imprisonment.” Marafa says he remained silent on the issue, until now, to avoid raising emotions and also because, he thought the regime was carrying out an investigation into the murder. However, two months after the murder, Marafa says he is “obliged to conclude that the state has maintained a stony silence.” Soppo was brutally killed in her Yaounde residence in January, and police have been unable to put hands on the perpetrators. A local newspaper had quoted neighbours of the deceased as saying they spotted three men entering her residence just before she was reported killed.
