Unexpected joy. Last Saturday evening, I decided to go on a walk. Unlike most July days the air was cool and refreshing. My footsteps took me to a path beside the Riley Creek. The recent rains made the stream run fast producing a babbling sound as the water rushed over rocks. The sound was a delight to my ears. Then I spotted them. Seven ducks floating in the current. Without a care in the world. A delight to my eyes. Psalm 24:1 opens like this, “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.” The creek is His. The ducks too. A simple walk reminded me to tune my senses towards His creation. For in His property can be found unexpected joy. Even when it’s just a flowing creek and seven ducks.
