Unfortunately I read last week that another teenager has committed - TopicsExpress

Unfortunately I read last week that another teenager has committed suicide after an extended campaign of online bullying. At the age of just 14, Hannah Smith hung herself after logging on to a social networking site and being abused by trolls who called her all sorts of names. This is the type of behaviour that I want to highlight and raise awareness of. It could be your son or daughter, nephew, niece, grandchild, next door neighbour on the end of the next set of abuse. Or unknown to you, it could be your child who is unwittingly joining in as a prank, not knowing how damaging it is to the fragile person on the end. As such, here is one of my latest poems, aimed at the social network bullying. If you like it, please hit like, and if you want to share this with others, please do. My New Phone By Michael Andrews I was so excited that finally I had got my hands on my new phone. I pestered my mum and dad to hurry up so that we could go home. I wanted to try all the new things that the phone could do. Not only could it ring and text, but Facebook and Twitter too. I couldn’t wait to join the fun that all of you guys have. The facebook pokes, the twitter jokes, And all the other laughs. I friended you all and exchanged the links that brought me so much joy. But when I watched the vids on youtube about that bullied boy, You know the one, he killed himself After falling foul of a bully. But I didn’t really take much stock cos it couldn’t happen to me. Until the day I aced that test and someone called me geek. I laughed it off as just a joke, but it went on for a week. It seemed that all my friends joined in, And called me names on facebook and on twitter. There were days I hated turning on my phone, I didn’t want to look. Each day there be another name, or text or facebook post. I slowly started to hide away becoming like a ghost. The messages just kept on coming and there seemed to be no end to the constant calling, the laughs and sniggers of guys I thought were my friend. It got so bad that I stayed off school but even at home I wasn’t safe. The messages kept coming though, it really made me chafe. I thought back to that video and how his Dad appealed to any kid who’s being bullied. He told us not to yield to the pressure that we must feel to end our own young life. He told us that things do get better, so I put away the knife. I showed my Mum and Dad the things that all you kids were saying about me, just for being smart and how I had been praying for it to end, cos it hurts so much and so I write this rhyme. To tell you that you will not win As cyber bullying is a crime.
